Well, I was just popping in to see how the prediction from 12 months ago was holding up. Unless there is any change in the Aus economy, I would see no reason for the GBP/AUD rate to ever break above...

Always interesting to revisit these predictions 12 months later.

Looks like that is exactly what has happened in the last 12 months.
1.6 (last Nov), down to 1.47 (last Feb), up to 1.6 (in May), ...

Well, there have been enough articles over the last year to indicate that the China gravy train could likely come to a juddering halt within the next 1 to 2 years. Best to assume our long overdue...

I believe the trigger will be the Greek default, for which most of the analysts now agree will probably take place by December, if not earlier....

....but with the latest figures out of China, the absolute risk averse global situation at the moment, along with the RBA signalled rate cut and the property market finally starting to tank a bit,...

It did before : 27th July to 2nd August.

It's just settling back into its normal range now.
1.50 - 1.60 is about right for the moment.
There will be times where it will dip either side of that.

Remember the GFC event from Oct 2008
Spiked from 2.1 to 2.6 in the space of just 6 weeks, then dropped back steadily to 2.1 over the following couple of months.

Does that mean it could be...

Aye. They'll come to some arrangement over the next week and the GBP/AUD should revert to the more acceptable normal rate of 1.50 ;-)

I tend to agree. Seeing it breached though, however briefly, is certainly fascinating to see. The next couple of years should provide plenty more currency soap opera !
