We brought bikes with us but if we hadn't I'd be importing, like many discretionary/luxury goods here bikes here seem to be marked up massively.

I was speaking with a few friends who own businesses there while visiting a few weeks ago - they're pretty pessimistic.

This sounds pretty gloomy for homeowners House prices to fall to 2004...

Its not as gloomy as the UK yet - by a long chalk.

Unemployment here is around 5%, half the UK. No-one (including Credit Suisse) know whats round the corner with certainty. Even if the economies...

I'm buying suits, shoes and casual clothing, Mrs also buying clothes and bedding - looks cheaper and in many cases better quality!

Bernanke is either a genius or an idiot, I don't think he's a genius.

They may get hyperinflation but I don't think the USD will still exist in 10 years wither way.

US has a huge trade deficit so a weaker currency also means more expensive imports, what they seem to be trying to do is to destroy (not devalue) the dollar, making their mountainous debt more...

I meant world markets in general (e.g. the SPY), which seem pretty well correlated at the moment. What I was saying was that (for instance) when the SPY goes up the AUD also goes up, as its a risk...

Actually if you look at IamTCFUA's chart it hit about 750 (high) in the early 80's but nothing goes up (or down) forever - and that includes the Australian Dollar, my money (literally) is on Gold...

Guess we can all pick our timeframes, and almost any investment has ups & downs over an extended period but 10 years is a pretty good trend, still I'm sure you're comfortable with your investment...

Probably, but in 1980 the US took its medicine and fixed its monetary problems, by putting interest rates up to about 15% - its doing the opposite right now.
