There are a lot worse places to work. In most large mines you cant tell the difference that you arent in a large mine anywhere else in the world. I can where i work - but i do green field exploration...

Actually most mining prffessionals are a lot better off working in the UK and doing fifo to Africa. Salaries are 50-75% more than Oz and tax free

Worked in Africa before and like it. Most of my friends prefer it to Oz. I dont like it more or less. It has its ups and downs. Only know one guy who has had any disease and some have been in Africa...

It depends on the individual. For us it is financial suicide to stay. We cant find a house in a reasonable area in our budget and if we dont get on the housing ladder soon then i am going to be faced...

Agree. For cost of living differences we use a figure of x2.5 between being in the UK spending pounds and here spending AUS$. I think that figure though is a bit personal based on lifestyle.

Because for some of us it is still important. I am on a temp visa and here earn AUS$ but everywhere else i work, including back in the UK i earn US$. So exchange rates are important for me....

So you have paid 108 pounds for the month. Which on a quarter basis is 324 pounds. But you paid 180 pounds in the UK. You are now paying 144 pounds more per quarter. Not happy days. :thumbdown:

Sometimes using exchange is usefull. Particularly for myself as even if i was back in the UK i would be paid in US$, which is a close proxy and as my job would earn about the same here as there then...
