Re: Home and garden projects

That's similar to what I've heard, though I thought it was only the hot water side that was 'disconnected' from the 'mains' pressure by a cistern. My old experience of UK was that showers were always...

Re: Home and garden projects

In my case, as described, I wasn't trying to avoid them, I was trying to determine where they went, so I could perhaps figure out their function.

Re: Home and garden projects

I do the same but with a VERY small diameter drill bit. They often snap, they are so small ... . But using a drill bit, I've found it's easier to detect the point of 'no resistance' when you pass...

Re: Home and garden projects

'European Hinges'.

When we moved into our current place, the kitchen had been fairly recently re-done. Not to our taste / liking exactly, but - good enough that we didn't feel the need to change...

Re: Home and garden projects

This is what passes for Condenser installation around my parts! This is outside a 3-story apartment building. There's a set of 4 that's even more precarious that I see on one of my daily walks, I'll...

Re: Home and garden projects

In a few thousand years, some future archeologists are going to dig this up and wonder what 'God' this represents, on this huge altar! "The God of Trane"!

Re: Home and garden projects

I'm confused by this - what 'worked so well' - the split unit heat pump or the wood furnace (backup)? If the split unit heat pump is over-heating the house, that's not 'working well'! But I guess...

Re: Home and garden projects

One downside seems to be - the view from your original 'porch' or patio or whatever seems to have been diminished!

Re: Home and garden projects

I'd be a bit worried about the water that will be trapped between the pallettes and the deck boards. Speaking of which - those deck boards look like they need a bit of TLC! We bought a house in 95...

Re: Home and garden projects

I just did another search; this time searching for 'dual cylinder deadbolt'. Apparently, they are legal in some jurisdictions, and of course, Texas - the land of the free - allows them:

Re: Home and garden projects

Front door locks question.

When I lived in the UK, the most common 'front door' lock was a 'yale' type, which was self-locking - you simply slammed the door and it was locked, without the need...

Re: Home and garden projects

A plate?

I guess I might be a bit squeamish about eating uncovered biscuits sitting there for some time in a small toilet ... so you'd have to go with the equivalent of 'airplane' versions, or...

This comment caught my eye. If I recall correctly, you are fairly new to Southern Cal. I've been in Northern Cal for almost 40 years, and one thing I've learned is that the weather can be 'volatile'....

Did you sand the entire surface first?

I removed the doors from the cabinets and laid them flat to help avoid 'runs', but still got them:

Wow! That is a great transformation indeed! I looked at the pics before reading the intro, and didn't even realize the cabinets were the same. Love the color, and the color 'differential' for the...

Re: Home and garden projects

Well ... the current color scheme / style could be equally associated with the Tardis, so you can still keep the bathmat! You might be able to get a showerhead that looks like a phone too :)

Re: Home and garden projects

In my browser, they are 'full width' which is fine - just have to scroll up / down. When Pulaski said lots of scrolling, I assumed he meant, side-to-side.

Regarding the gridlines - can they be...

Re: Home and garden projects

Not sure about the 'grid lines' on the glass ... how is that achieved? On modern exterior windows, it's something that is placed inside the dual-pane glass, but presumably in your case, it's a...

Re: Home and garden projects

My fridge / freezer combo crapped out early in the pandemic and I replaced it with a new one. Here's my thoughts.
1) Even if your machine started working again, it's clearly flakey at this point....

Re: Home and garden projects

When writing my response above, I did a quick google on the issue of double-glazing ('dual pane' seems to be the best search term using US parlance). I couldn't find a definitive answer on whether...

Re: Home and garden projects

Compounding this situation, though, is the fact that lenders don't like to lend on an 'unfinished' project. At least, that's what we ran into back in the 90s. Our inspection uncovered some major...

Re: Home and garden projects

I am 99.999% sure that they were real bricks. One house in the 'hood' looks like it has been empty for a while and has weeds growing between all the bricks (not just a few, which could be due to...
