Ah, right,y ou need a Resident Return Visa - see here http://www.border.gov.au/FormsAndDocuments/Documents/1085.pdf - totally separate from your passport application as the RRV comes from DIBP...

https://www.gov.uk/overseas-passports will have lists of the documents required.

Not sure what you mean about a re-entry visa? If you are British you do not need a visa to enter the UK.

Might do.
As Pen says it can depend on who is doing the delivering. If they have to pick up from the Post Office it can also depend on their helpfulness - I'm no lover of Aus Post but my local post...

If it needs ID for collection then you will actually have to sign the pick-up card giving them permission to pick-up on your behalf.

As astera says, https://www.gov.uk/passport-advice-line has that number for contact. Thats the UK passport office. they are not a scam.

JAJ always used to advise that a JP can sign because they are just stating that the person who has the ID and is standing in front of them, is the person described by the ID, if you see what I mean....

Yep, or go to a JP - most shopping centres have one who does a few hours a week. They can sign to say that they are verifying the identity from the ID provided, even if they don't know you.

I guess the other answer is to tell them you don't have another valid passport....I doubt they have any way of checking or if thyey do they are unlikely to bother....... ;)

When I got my Aussie one, I was renewing the Uk one at the same time, and they tried to tell me it was illegal to have the same photo on my UK one as one my Aussie one!
