probably yes.
My wife's application was dealt with by Abu Dhabi instead of Sheffield. We paid priority and got it (much to our shock) in 5 working days.

I'm guessing though that Bangkok will have...

That is not correct. If you are legally a resident in a 3rd country you can apply in that country. My wife is Kazakh and we applied for her visa in the UAE

it may actually be beneficial to wait. by then hopefully they would have sorted their act out. Good luck and hope it goes through smoothly

Keep in mind that you can only apply 3 months in advance.

Yes it's true. We got very lucky that my wife's application was handled in country over here and not sent to Sheffield. We did pay priority and it was a very clear case ( I know that many others also...

suppose its no comfort that the waiting time is still far shorter than going the other way. Have friends where the wife is stuck waiting for her visa for OZ. understand that's normally at least 14...

I think in a way the government a right to try to put some limits in place to prevent abuses of the social/health/welfare system etc.

I think they are wrong to have abandoned taking into account...
