Re: Schools, teachers, kids and parents. Education in general.

I think the idea was that copying it out would mean they were reading it too and it would improve their reading - no clue! Another kid did the same amount and couldn't do the reading either, so I...

Re: Schools, teachers, kids and parents. Education in general.

Well Antonia was supposed to copy an A4 page of cursive (she writes big) every day of the holidays except the festas. We did 4 and she got told off but with everything going on here right now (should...

Re: Schools, teachers, kids and parents. Education in general.

I moved down to Sussex and moved out here from there. We were there around 4 years. It really was only a snotty few but it was very obvious. Mainly because the first thing they ask is which part of...

Re: Schools, teachers, kids and parents. Education in general.

Re: Schools, teachers, kids and parents. Education in general.

Alex got to grade 4 in descant recorder and 2 in treble and he now plays clarinet, so I honestly have no problem with Antonia learning it! We still have all Alex's recorders and books so it will be...

Re: Schools, teachers, kids and parents. Education in general.

The elementare one was much better than the materna one! Once they started they just carried on until they had finished, no scene changes etc!! They were very good. Also I was impressed with the...

Re: Schools, teachers, kids and parents. Education in general.

Got back about 10! Not as bad a time as I'd expected. Good concert - completely secular but in a church with on little prayer at the end! Not one hymn!! Jingle bells, Let It Snow and loads of...

It's every year up to 5 doing it - been told it should only last an hour, but that's from it starting, which we know won't be on time!!!

Re: Schools, teachers, kids and parents. Education in general.

We have Antonia's Christmas concert in Monday. It's being held in the church attached to the school - at 20.45 p.m. and it's a normal school day on the Tuesday....:ohmy: What fun!!

Re: Schools, teachers, kids and parents. Education in general.

Ok, you're forgiven...Only other Northerners are allowed to take the mick..;) It's just something I knew, but then I'm from a different age to today's 11 year olds, so who knows?? I'll ask my Gt...

Re: Schools, teachers, kids and parents. Education in general.

Antonia's school uses the Longman's range of English books. It was quite a relief as they look like they have been edited by an English speaker....

Re: Schools, teachers, kids and parents. Education in general.

Ok, Antonia has a cold and we are doing homework...I am getting so pissed off with her!! She insists on writiting e as i and vice versa and every week we end up having the same row. I have told her,...

Re: Schools, teachers, kids and parents. Education in general.

Lol! Been there, done that! Could be the making of him...it wouldn't be forever and he might just think you are the best mum ever if he did go back! If that's what all this is about after 3 years I...

Re: Schools, teachers, kids and parents. Education in general.

And that's why I said research it even if you can't then go through with it. :) It's more a long the lines of carrot and stuck rather than actually doing it. Having said that, if it was possible I'd...

Re: Schools, teachers, kids and parents. Education in general.

You know, at this point, hard as it would be for him and you, I'd be considering packing him back off to the UK to live with either Grandparents or Aunties....If nothing else, how would he react if...

Re: Schools, teachers, kids and parents. Education in general.

My BFF used to get clobbered by her mum with her scholls - it shocked me. My parents would hit me but nothing OTT. I admit to smacking Antonia's bum when I can catch her but she really has to push it...

Re: Schools, teachers, kids and parents. Education in general.

Yeah, but I'm also learning that a vivace girl gets away with far more than a boy!!;) Sounds like H has got things all mixed up - it's home he's supposed to play up, not school!:p

Re: Schools, teachers, kids and parents. Education in general.

I think we have a different relationship with our kids now though - we treat them like friends and I wonder if that's half the problem....Have you seen how little kids treat their friends?!! There's...

Re: Schools, teachers, kids and parents. Education in general.

Hmm, tbh I think it's not a bad idea. This kid is one of the more badly behaved and he's been made an example, apparently the next kid whose birthday is coming up is behaving impeccably which is out...

Re: Schools, teachers, kids and parents. Education in general.

This is the first party of the class this year - I'm amazed the mother listened to the nun but that just shows to me how powerful the church can still be...! They did at least do something related to...

Re: Schools, teachers, kids and parents. Education in general.

So the party has been cancelled. The little boy whose party it was going to be was really naughty in gym yesterday. Antonia said he wouldn't sit down, be quiet and was really out of control (this is...

Re: Schools, teachers, kids and parents. Education in general.

Far from it! ;):p As if I would do that!! There is another "clique" I'm not as comfortable with - they are fine on their own but hard work all together! But then I think they are scared of some of...

Re: Schools, teachers, kids and parents. Education in general.

I'm finding there really has been a shift this year with the mum's in Antonia's class. Those of us that have come up from the Materna are a lot more friendly - I guess the idea is that our kids will...
