i think you get 12 months in SA before you have to chnage to an SA licence - when I did mine they didnt keep my UK licence, so I actually had both

the assurer can definitely be a permanent resident - my sister is a permanent resident and is assurer for my mum - mums visa was issued last year

in sydney they seemed to be able to give next day appointments - it wasnt the main office so they had to post the paperwork on internally, but it was still processed very quickly

mum has found in adelaide that the senior citizen card (over 60 in South Aus) gets her lots of discounts when buying things for her new house, getting quotes from tradesmen etc etc

speaking of medicare - anyone going over on a validation trip would be recommended to register with medicare, easily done by showing the perm visa in your passport and providing an australian...

Mums case officer back in March did say the money had to be paid in Australia - but hopefully this will work for someone in the short time before Immig change their exchange rates!

my understanding is that the 2nd visa payment also has to be made to the PVC in Australia - as confirmed by Australia House in London (see earlier posts)

ok, once your CPV visa has been validated the only restrictions on you coming and going from Australia are determined by the Residents Returning Visa (RRV) regulations. You can get more info on this...

thats strange - mum sent hers with the original application, and was never asked for another one even though she got the CO etc over a year after application.

its often easier to submit form 80 at the time of the original application, and in some cases it is now being requested at the time of acknowledgement (my dads was)
