Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread

My local chippy at uni - about 5 doors down from the house I lived in so heavily frequented by me and housemates - had jars of pickled eggs, gherkins and onions on the counter. A pickled egg with a...

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread

With comments like that, there was only one possible course of action. Consider it done!

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread

Until I read the second sentence, I was thinking "Oh, happy birthday for next week, JS - but I thought you were older than that!"

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread

There's always the option of history with a little bit of an engineering skew, Jings. Have you, for example, tried some of the social-history series presented by Ruth Goodman, Peter Ginn and others?...

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread

Blimey. A couple of days away from the forums and back to this news. Siouxie, all the very best, what a horrible and frightening experience that must have been.

I'm tempted to ask what we can do...

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread

Could you book three appointments with your doctor, then cancel two (far enough out not to take a penalty) when you know your work schedule? Screws with his system, for sure, but works better for...

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread

Early indications are that there was no fault on the part of the Uber self-driving software nor the supervising driver. The collision may have been impossible for any driver, human or machine, to...

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread

That would be, IMO, utterly counterproductive and objectionable.

If you don't agree that pigs should be reared for food, then that's great - don't eat bacon. But keeping a livestock animal as a...

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread

I don't know that I've ever tried Old Pulteney. I knew there was a distillery in Wick but am not familiar with its product. Thank you for the recommendation!

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread

To drink with soda or (if you must, Bristol) with sweet pop, possibly over ice as a long drink, then I would prefer a "premium blend" from Johnnie Walker or Grouse (the Black Grouse is quite nice)....

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread

Well, I wouldn't waste a good single malt on it, but that's what the Bell's or, in my case, Teacher's, is for.

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread

what, Stone's and a blended Scotch? Why yes, yes indeed. That's been the go-to tincture in my hip flask for many years, and has a long tradition as a warming drink on a cold day (science...

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread

In my mind, the edge of the South approximately follows the northern borders of Glos, Oxon, Bucks, Beds, cuts across the middle of Cambs, to the Norfolk/Suffolk boundary.

Beyond that, "Here Be...

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread

that is a singularly unhelpful and spiteful contribution to this thread. I'm sure you think you're terribly clever, but you continue to come across on here as an insufferable knob.

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread

Nearly right. At least, unlike these other heathens, you do the cuffs before the rest of the sleeve. But you really need to buck your ideas up, Sunshine, if you think it's acceptable to iron either...

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread

This. Very much this. All of the above.

Without lentils there'd be no fabulous curry dishes (no dal makhani, no tadka dal...), nor some of my favourite winter soups. A staple in our meat-loving...

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread

We rented a lovely 2-bed-plus-loft cottage in Bayfield for an out of season week a couple of years ago. South of the village, on a road that delights in the name Glitter Bay Drive, I think. Owned by...

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread

Thanks for the imagery. I now can't remove from my mind the little ditty that goes with this scenario:

Quick, quick!
The cat's been sick!
Where, where?
Under the chair.
Hasten, hasten, ...

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread

I got one of those Bluetooth ones that connects to an Android tablet (that I already owned) when my car had a persistent but intermittent fault. A free or v cheap app (Torque?) allowed me to check...
