I think it was about ten years ago, but speaking to some aussies they reckon that the pokies have ruined the pubs they used to better before their arrival.

You may have to save for a whole month to go out, here I've lost the will to want to go out, the pubs are totally atmosphereless. I would gladly save up for a month and have a really brilliant night...

This kind of propaganda re OZ and NZ is why I have been here for 10 years basically frightened of returning. OH and other poms stating how expensive is and how we could never afford to go back...
