Well, that's the crux isn't it. Raising them will screw all those people at their limits with debts / mortgages and turn the economy to shit. They had a chance 10 years ago, but we are stuck with...

Yeah, for sure manufacturing won't disappear. The UK always had the same said about them; "We don't make anything anymore" "it's all service industry" etc. None of that was actually true.

Tbf, they were heading there anyway. Western countries can't compete on wages, let alone working conditions and environmental protection.

I remember reading (not sure where, so this could be wrong) that women do attempt suicide at similar rates to men, however men tend to do it in ways that get the job done as it were.
