WMV I believe. There are free DRM removal options, but I found them to be so convoluted I splashed the cash on a commercial app (in the days when I used Windows that is).

Totally - news groups all the way. Those of us who use Internode as our ISP have full unrestricted access to a Giganews feed - complete with 240 day retention and *all* the binary newsgroups. ;)
