Re: Price of gas update...

Part of the reason people complain (other than the number of miles driven being higher here) is that you are not "protected" from increases in the price of fuel by taxes. It's not inconceivable for...

Re: Price of gas update...

Most places seemed to have gone up by 7 or 8 cents this morning compared to last night. I filled up last night for $1.55.

Re: Price of gas update...

You've got to love states (like NJ) where you're not allowed to do it yourself.

Re: Price of gas update...

But if the engine is already warm, wouldn't the air vents already be blowing warm air when you start it, which will defrost the window faster.

Last year I used a bin bag to cover the windscreen to...

Re: Price of gas update...

From what I've read, running a block heater is way more efficient than an idling engine. It also saves wear and tear on the vehicle as you are not running it cold. They don't seem too expensive to...

Re: Price of gas update...

I'm surprised an engine block heater doesn't come as standard up that way - as far as I know it's pretty standard in Canada.

Re: Price of gas update...

Are people really stupid enough to think the price won't go as high again, or higher?

Re: Price of gas update...

I can assure you that when I came to NJ on a business trip at the end of 2001 it was $1.09 in NJ. It was the first time I had ever been to NJ so I am not mistaken on the timing. This historic price...

Re: Price of gas update...

How big is your tank? When I came over here 7 years ago it was $1.09 a gallon, so that would have to be a huge tank.

Re: Price of gas update...

I went on costco.com to look and this is the page with the membership cost: http://www.costco.com/Service/FeaturePage.aspx?ProductNo=11315018

Does it look different where you are? They didn't ask...

Re: Price of gas update...

I'm sure it was $50 for my last renewal. I let it lapse however, with no option for petrol, and Amazon grocery supplying a lot of the household items without the hassle of going to Costco it just...

Re: Price of gas update...

Someone told me that the Costco near my job doesn't require you to be a member to buy petrol. Only requirement is you have to pay cash. Now I haven't tested that out because I live in NJ but work in...

Re: Price of gas update...

This is an interesting chart for comparisons over time between states: http://www.gasbuddy.com/gb_retail_price_chart.aspx

It seems to show that most of the time NJ is below OH, but not right now.

Re: Price of gas update...

Agreed they factor in to the overall cost, but can they explain a 15 to 20% or more reduction since 2005 compared to NJ?

I'm sure with real estate going down there aren't that many wanting to open...

Re: Price of gas update...

Who knows - wasn't a serious statement really. Still, is there a plausible explanation for the discrepancies all over the country when the only significant difference is the amount of state tax? I...

Re: Price of gas update...

You live in a posh area so you can afford it; must be that their operating costs are so much higher in your area. Still, you don't have to go far from your way to find it much cheaper so who's still...

Re: Price of gas update...

Ohio has gas taxes over 10 cents higher than NJ, yet the cheapest in NJ is still around 30 cents more than the cheapest in Ohio. I did not mention the cost of crude at all.

Re: Price of gas update...

The place I filled up at this morning for $2.53 was $2.45 on my way home. I couldn't have made it to work and back on what I had in the tank this morning though.

Re: Price of gas update...

Before things started going up a couple of years ago, NJ had one of the lowest prices in the country (as far as I know). Since it went up that's no longer the case as it doesn't seem to come down as...
