Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

Google is a scourge. Thinking things out for yourself is better for your brain.

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

A quick (rough) mental arithmetic conversion is to take metres, multiply by 3 and add 10%. ;)

For example 2.60 metres x 3 = 7.80 add .78 gives you 8.6 feet.

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

I read an article on Turing recently that said the Apple logo thing is an urban myth (or might be). I prefer to think it is true as it would be a very fitting tribute.

[Ah, here you go - this...

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

Seems an odd restriction. That's a bit like a medical plan saying you can only have two colds a year.

Never mind, if you last another 31 years you can have a mouthful!

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

There's not one, there are dozens!

We have even developed 5 different stepping Apps (FYI, Android = app, iPhone = App), but we can't put them on the Apple Store because they were developed using a...

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

If you just want accurate measurement of steps, there is no calibration needed. Some makes and models (e.g., Omron) require fiddly set-up and calibration of "step sensitivity" and I'd steer clear of...

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

Make sure you spend about £20 as cheaper ones often are rubbish and often don't count accurately at all. It can be frustrating to go for a long walk and find you only added 400 steps!

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

For those of you looking to buy physical activity gadgets, the Garmin VivoFit and VivoSmart seem to get the best reviews from researchers I know who use them (I do a fair bit of research on use of...

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

I almost missed it! Came across it 5 minutes after it started while channel-surfing and assumed it was a repeat but after checking the Radio Times realised it was Series 5. For some reason, it...

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

I graduated in Worcester Cathedral! Twice!

Years later, I took a US friend of mine on a vacation to the UK and we visited the cathedral. As we wandered along I asked her if she remembered the...

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

I would definitely be interested in a gardening thread. I am a ham-fisted gardener and don't have as much success here as in the US (I posted some pictures of my NC garden previously).

I would be...

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

I think that in some towns in the US, planning laws almost REQUIRE that commercial developments include residential plans for the upper floors, especially in town centres. Mixed use like that adds to...

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

It seems to work for me too - exactly the same as the For Sale page.

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

No, it's just easier to type "my NC house" than "the house I owned when I lived in NC"!

I'm no property baron, still have most of my current mortgage to pay off ...

I do visit "my NC house"...

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

Nandina is called "heavenly bamboo" in the US. One version is tall (4 to 6 ft) and the stems look like bamboo (hence the name). The other is a shorter, softer version called "firepower" and that's...

Second two pictures are "before" and "in progress" of a very...
