Update: I did not get my contract renewed and I do have to leave. There are no photos from the checkin, but I took a few when I went and visited the flat for the viewing so at least the main damages...

It's a good idea but it's a furnished rental and I paid 3 months deposit, I can't risk bringing a cat here.... I'm trying the mint oil to repel them, I haven't heard any noises or seen any...

I didn't find fresh droppings, or at least, not since I first looked a couple of days ago so I hope they won't be around.

Thanks for the kind words. :) The credit for the viewing is for the agency, I just asked them to look somewhere for me and they found me something really quite nice. They're worth more than their fee...

I wouldn't be able to pay for all the 6-7 months in advance though, and I still have to be able to register at an address so I don't know if this is a viable option but thanks for the suggestion...
