Yeah. I knew of a couple dozen cases. That's not a lot, but enough to say it can happen. The risk level depends on a lot of variables - some controllable, some not.

Change "girlfriend" to "wife" - while she still is in the UK, not Dubai - then, yes! You can sponsor her and live together.
