Never much success with teachers, tried two (only a lesson from each)and just wasn't impressed, luck of the draw I guess.... that said, we took my son, then 5 or 6 to 'school of rock'. I don't know...

yeah, as you say, once you are oriented to the location on the neck, it is very easy to play along and then shift positions an octave, add bends, slurs, hammer-ons, pull offs and so on, embellishing...

no. not stupid, at all. i'm not sure really, for some reason it just 'felt right' (that was an unintended pun). the instructors are correct, l/h instruments are a little harder to find. oddly enough...
