I'm going to add a positive perspective, but it is based on my own circumstances, which are very different to the OP's.

I'll be emigrating to Vancouver with my Canadian (Vancouver-born) spouse...

This can depend on the price point. The more you're willing to pay, the more availability there is. But the lower salaries don't help on that score.
