Lots of people may have recommended Lebanon years ago, or even Egypt not that many years ago. Hard to see North Africa as a long term stable region to spend time in.

Since only a small part of Turkey is in Europe, and certainly not a European country, hadn't considered it.

Was just in Croatia and Croatian part of Bosnia, except for the occasional drunk Brit...

I think the OP wanted flights 10 hours or less, so that eliminates the Far East.

Ecuador I have heard many good things about especially the cost of living, though I think Colombia has a lot more...

I agree not all parts, though the violence does seem over time to be spreading, who knows how wide it will spread.

Lake Chapala has a lot of Expats, but also prices seem to be higher there than...

I find cost of living always interesting to discuss, some items clear but many depend on how one organizes one's affairs, and how one lives. Some people seem hell-bent on wasting money, or not...

I thought OP had one of his criteria as a reasonable cost of living. That might eliminate some of the islands I would think.

I don't know Panama well but I found most Panamanians I dealt with spoke English. Belize I have heard is expensive. I don't know Costa Rica , I hear beautiful but expensive.

I don't know Panama as well, just going by my brief visits and what others who live there I have told me. I never had hotels suggest armed guards when I visited.

I have been to both. Medellin is quite safe in the areas that an Expat would frequent, or in tourists areas an Expat may visit. Overall I feel safer in Medellin that I would in many parts of New York...

The easy answer is Croatia, and I doubt Brexit will change that much if one is already there.

Outside of Europe or USA, Panama or Colombia. Panama has many special programs for retirees and...
