Just confirming - I got my E3 visa today after all that. They even allowed me to pick it up from the consulate, so I'll be able to fly back to the US and start work next week.

Thought I'd update.

After three weeks I just had a voicemail from the consulate asking me to call back and organise to bring my passport in.

This seems quite positive - I don't know why else...

We don't want to get married. We would have as a last resort, but wanted to do this right without doing something we don't believe in and tying my visa to our relationship.
