I have passed Ipoh a few times and my impression is that it is hot and dusty (from the limestone crushing and cement plants) as it is located in a valley with mountains around it.

As I mentioned before, the local restaurants, especially the cheaper ones lace the food with MSG. (What do you expect when it is so cheap?)
But this is of course OK if one doesn't have a problem...
