Really? It's true that if you want to file married/joint, you have you declare yourself U.S. resident for the entire year. But I've never heard of a company insisting that an employee file this...

"They" won't complete any tax return for you. Your tax return, always, is your own responsibility. Even if a tax preparer is involved.
