Re: Groceries

The petrol at Costco is an even better deal if you run on premium, as the price delta at Costco is about half of Mobil/ Shell. These days with WFH I don't find myself bothering to queue anymore.

Re: Groceries

After revelling in my last can of UK-bought baked beans, I swore no more experimenting with the local ones. Then I found that WalMart at Golden Mile now has a little british section. Four pack of...

Re: Groceries

Question for the Quebeccers- do you get Bissap syrup over there, like they have in France? (its a cordial made from Hibiscus, much like Sorel in the Caribbean).

I've developed a bit of a taste...

Re: Groceries

Yeah, sugar beets are for when you can't afford/ get enough sugar cane, right?

So not just the brits then... especially as the aussies took the pickled beetroot, ran with it and ended up with...

Re: Groceries

So on Saturday, in the Foreign Foods section, a Canadian chap asked me if Beetroot was the same as Beets. He's heard of Beets, never beetroot (he was holding a jar of polish pickled beetroot). I was...

Re: Groceries

I think further action is required if cheese is banned.

Marble is pretty much my goto.

It won't necessarily help the cost though, the supermarkets seem fairly happily cartelised here....

Re: Groceries

On the cheese front, the PC Isle of Man cheddar i just opened is extremely disappointing, barely a notch better than melting block cheese. I really must look out for that Castello Tingler again, even...

Re: Groceries

I paid (aussie) $20 for a bunch a grapes once in a jetlagged moment.

Prices look scary in the maritimes.....

Re: Groceries

No this is a cheeky 2017, bought and left in my mothers house on our trip that year. I was delighted to find the tin still there this year, probably because mum has that same Heinz affliction (good...

Talking Re: Groceries

I didn't even like Heinz in the UK- Branston Beans are by far the best over there. I have one tin I'm putting down in the wine cellar lol.

I don't mind the new Heinz BBQ beans though for a guilty...

Re: Groceries

Baked Bean Sighting!

Dollarama only has Clarks (my current goto) in the larger 500+ mg sizes. So I took a flyer on Northern Harvest beans, from Leamington.

Could be my new goto, a bit sweet...

Re: Groceries

One of my great shopping pleasures is checking out the "YOU SAVED xx TODAY!" on my receipt when I get home from Freshco. Usually its $10-20, I hit $30 once.

Waves Scottish flag of thriftfulness!

Re: Groceries

We went to an underground dollarama yesterday; you go through a sketchy doorway next to no frills, down some stairs... and inside of nude wimmen, a massive dollarama.

Mini wheel pondered whether...

Re: Groceries

Looks like there's a shortage of Tate & Lyle golden syrup in Canuckstan at the moment, I hear they changed suppliers. When Walmart used to knock out a tin for $4 I'm not going north of 20 just to fly...

Re: Groceries

My major fortnightly shop came in under $100 yesterday, weird because they had pea meal haunches on special plus frozen pork loins and I stocked up on both. $100 is the tap threshold and I always...

Re: Groceries

That's epic. I spent $105 last night and that's aimed at 2 weeks food. Quite a bit of frozen stuff though.

I do like Freshco when it shows you're savings at the bottom. Last time I shopped there...

Re: Groceries

I spotted the british section in the walmart near the new work site; local one doesn't have.

I now have a pack of choccy hobnobs.

As a kind and generous parent, I have declared that if the...

Re: Groceries

That was me exactly with the 1L metro diet tonic. Until I gave up and started drinking full fat, since I was losing weight anyway.
