It would be good to know the areas to avoid, I presume Pattaya is one :p

I'm visiting Chiang Mai, Pai and Mae Hong Son in November, hopefully these places are OK expat-wise?

Actually it's not the first time I've read this story - and it's not just buying property in Thailand which is ill-advised but also marrying a Thai.
