I am enjoying following this thread, interesting and informative.
But for anyone else who is following it because they are still in the dreaming but not yet committed stage, I want to add a thought....

I would add that you will almost certainly discover that your present wiring is aluminium.
so plan for a complete (copper) re-wire, and ditch the old radial system.

Converter plugs are readily available here, good for small things like chargers etc.
Since I had a lot of Kitchen equipment I wanted to keep, and since what the Hungarians accepted as a kitchen was...

I think the important factor that you are missing is asking the girlfriend why she laughed and said 'One day'.

This sounds like a girl who knows Hungary only too well and is in No big hurry at all...
