Re: Dreaming of moving

Lighting is not wired on a separate circuit here, the lights are on the same circuits as the power sockets. Circuits can be wired for a capacity of 16A or 25A with the mcb chosen to match the...

Re: Dreaming of moving

When you get an 'expert' to look at things make sure it is an independent expert and not like the UK where the usual 'expert' on damp problems is a rep for the injected retrofit type of damp course...

Re: Dreaming of moving

I have never been a fan of the theory that a concrete floor will drive moisture into a wall. The theory says that if the floor can't 'breath' then the damp in the sub soil will be driven into an...

Re: Dreaming of moving

The function of the circuit breaker is to protect the wiring and has nothing to do with what appliance or load is placed on the circuit. So a 16A circuit will have a 16A circuit breaker to protect...

Re: Dreaming of moving

The responses by your electrician, to me, imply that he was a UK based electrician and not used to the standards here. Goes to show why you would have problems if you tried to get a Hungarian...

Re: Dreaming of moving

Modern properties are wired according to Hungarian standards, not UK standards, which means radial circuits, (as far as I know the UK and Ireland are about the only countries in Europe that use a...

Re: Dreaming of moving

Having 3PH. may not complicate things - but look to see how many amps/phase. Sometimes you get 3PH but only 15A / phase which may make things a bit complicated. e.g. a washing machine could use 13...

Re: Dreaming of moving

You can also get sockets that screw to the wall box like the UK although the wall box tends to be plastic which needs plastering in. You can also get sockets with a 'push button' on the top which...

Re: Dreaming of moving

I have been here for some 23 years and can not fault the health service. Waiting times seem a lot shorter than anything I hear about in the UK, GPs have a walk in service, no appointments needed and...

Re: Dreaming of moving

The current standard (pun intended) is 32A single phase plus 32A for an off peak (night) meter. If you want more than that it will cost about 5000HUF per Amp. Generally 32A will be enough unless you...

Re: Dreaming of moving

You don't convert a 3 wired appliance to 2 wired socket. You put a 3 wire plug on it which, as said above, is the standard plug and use it in a 2 wire socket. The caveat is that there will be no...

Or get on with it now before the UK government screws it all up and everything goes south.

Re: Dreaming of moving

For the large garden, just make sure its big enough to justify...

Re: Dreaming of moving

But I wouldn't want to be in Budapest any more than I would want to be in London (and I lived in London for 28 years when it was much better than it is today)

Re: Dreaming of moving

Carrot Cruncher - for the citizenship test, if you have been here for the requisite amount of time (5 years I think) and you are over 65 then there is NO exam, just box ticking. It might be worth...

Re: Dreaming of moving

1. Winters are dry and cold. (UK doesn't get cold, we had -22 last winter!). Typical annual sunshine hours here = 2000 whereas the UK is about 1000

2. Now and until UK leaves it is easy to move as...
