Re: Australia better than Canada?

Re: Australia better than Canada?

Yes but if non-Aussies were to say Melbun, wouldn't it sound like we are taking the piss? Isn't it more Melburn (slight hint of an 'r')...?

Re: Australia better than Canada?

In Canada it is more about diction and grammar than accent. A tradesperson will often have simpler constructions and pepper their speech with colloquialisms, but the actual accent is not that far...

Re: Australia better than Canada?

That's not the right way of framing it. Sometimes are people are successful and want more success. They have a good career, for example, a happy home, but they see that they can get even more of...

Re: Australia better than Canada?

Evidently you haven't quite mastered the upbeat and laid back attitude of the Aussies yet.

Re: Australia better than Canada?

Erm...happy, fulfilled, contented? In life, career, wealth. Different things to different people but some mix of the above.

Re: Australia better than Canada?

Yes the "the UK is going to the dogs" reason is often a cover up. Simple point of fact is that it isn't going to the dogs for everyone (both Brits and the hoards of newcomers every year).

I...

Re: Australia better than Canada?

It could be "innate boredom" it could be wanting an "adventure". Both are perfectly good reasons!

Re: Australia better than Canada?

Now you're speaking nonsense!

Long service leave sounds brilliant. Oz is more enlightened than I thought.

Re: Australia better than Canada?

That is very true. I haven't noticed that many complaining about it on the forum, but I will take your word for it that they do. The NA attitude towards holiday time is very antiquated.

Re: Australia better than Canada?

You my friend have never been to Skegness!

Never been to Bali but it does sound magical. Does it differ much from the Thailand islands? I have been to some of those.

Re: Australia better than Canada?

Interesting maps. Who knows how the Chinese will run their nuclear power stations, but as they will be modern one would hope the risks would be less than Soviet built Chernobyl or ageing Fukushima...

Re: Australia better than Canada?

I hadn't heard that (which leads me to believe it isn't as serious it sounds) but in any case, that rather defeats the point. If radiation in Japan can reach the US it can surely reach the "island"...

Re: Australia better than Canada?

Generally agree with you, but I don't know why so many choose to focus on the fact that Vancouver has some seedy areas. All large cities have there no-go areas, and somehow Vancouver is held up to a...

For Bali the Bahamas makes a good substitute.

There are plenty of interesting locations in Asia, true, but not that close. Tokyo is 10 hours away, for instance. And at the end of the day, Asia...

At least Canada has the USA below it and is not too far to fly back to Britain.

Re: Australia better than Canada?

I disagree. I would say Canada is about 1.5 times better than Oz, and the Britain is 2.0 times better than Canada, making Britain in fact 3.0 times better than Oz!

Although I have never been to...
