You might find things different in the UK.
With no record of UK NI contribution or at least 6 months residence you could end up with a bill for any treatment as a non UK resident..

What do you buy your property with, how do you live, pay your bills without an income from somewhere . .?
I have been a tax officer and assets , life style without apparent income are a red flag...

Too many ,far too many have been misled by estate agents claims.
If NHR is your only reason to move then take expert advice before even starting the property search..

As Ukram has confirmed, NHR covers some but not all forms of income despite what some estate agents and accountants will tell you.
We have a large property ,golf complex near us and they still...

To be fair to Eric its the editors interpretation of the announcement.
Is the editor Portuguese or a Brit.
I learned long ago to ignore the more sensationalist views of the expat press.

You are of course right and it is time that those in the real estate and some expat financial advisors stopped suggesting that NHR status provides tax free residence in Portugal.

Is it not more to do with the source and status of income.
.EG pensions vs dividends.
Certain incomes qualifying for NHR status others do not.
Those incomes that are not subject to NHR being...
