I can think of a couple of stories where male journalists smuggled themselves into/out of no-go areas (Afghanistan for one) under a burkha, but I’m drawing a mental blank on a woman doing the reverse.

Oh absolutely, me too. That’s one of the reasons I’m following it quite closely.

Another reason I’m following is that I’m interested (not just in this case) in how former hostages re-adapt once...
