^^^ this. The story makes no sense to me as even the sometimes odd & antiquated Cdn banking system does allow electronic transfers of large sums of money.

Broke my last surviving teapot Friday :(. Spent yesterday hauling all over town looking for a replacement. No joy (even in secondhand stores). Lots of glass thingies with “infuser” attachment...

I don’t think that’s just a Canadian thing, nor just English language. I’ve seen & experienced it in many countries. The French & Quebecois do it too, for example.

Do you have to pay the whole lot in one go/in advance? Or can you pay weekly/is it deducted at source?

I think becki is talking about the scanners when (re-)entering Canada, not check-in machines (on departure), although they are somewhat similar.

For whatever reason, neither version has ever liked...
