I suppose I could drive 30 minutes down the road to the nearest Loblaws store to buy the exact same meat & vegetables that are available in local No Frills store...

Giant Tiger has bacon on sale at 2.50$/lb this week.

Maxi (No Frills - I think - for the rest of Canada) has whole fresh chickens (no giblets) @ 0.57$/lb.

ETA: I’m going to try price-matching...

Reporting back: the price-matching on chicken & eggs was easy and fast: started to pull out flyers & explain, cashier nodded & waved them away and it was done. Much easier and faster (for me) than...

Having said that, my offers/possible points are frequently screwed for weeks at a time after my ~monthly...

Prices here can vary quite a bit from one Maxi (Qc version of No Frills), as well as one Walmart etc to the next, even on basics/own brand products (outside the flyer specials)....

Possibly. Did she ever work in the food industry?

I learned this method in the hospitality biz, in Qc ;). No way were we going to, or able to, mess about separating uncooked bacon slices...

I'm not too bothered about authenticity ;) & I don't think anyone using VH etc sauces/pastes would be too bothered about that either.

The coconut milk? It's ~99c/a can here (I have no idea why!). It freezes okay once opened: I freeze leftovers in small portions, or keep it in the fridge for a day or two & make fruit/spinach...

On the theme of curry paste: Blue Dragon brand is cheap (here) but very bland :(. I've been known to chuck in harissa to remedy that.

Patek sauces & pastes seem to have disappeared from local...
