I would say not. Better to place the funds into an account solely in either of your names or jointly but not with third party involvement.

Correct; either or jointly will be treated equally for fulfilling the financial requirements but if you don't have an account yet (see below) then, yes, jointly would be better as it would add weight...

1) If you mean can you live in the UK on a spouse visa when your sponsor is living abroad then the answer is no. You will need accompany or join him in the UK.
