Just to be sure ... you completed the form for the green card and paid the required fee while at the US Embassy?

It would appear that the person you dealt with is not on the top of their game...

Not true. The forms are made so that your maiden name and your married surname can be used on the same line. There is nothing that states the green card has to match your passport. The form to...

And there is no need to change the name on your UK passport until it is due to expire. And even then it is your choice to use either surname. Your travel ticket must match the name on your passport...
