Just took me by surprise the first few times, one minute they're all chatting and laughing around the table, the next minute, heads are bowed, hands held and theres some earnest sounding whispering...

Not by the restaurant, just run of the mill families gathered in prayer before eating. I believe Alaska attracts a certain big religious right type among others.

Public prayer in chain restaurants. Could not believe my eyes when I first saw this but turns out it's quite common here. Although I rarely see it in Maine, in Alaska it was common.
