Saw this one this morning.

Although it has probably been affected by the slump I would also...

Re: The Great Australian Property Swindle

I'd phase it out rather than scrap it. Drop it by $500 a year until it's gone.

I remember what happened in the UK when they got rid of double mortgage relief in the late 80s. It wasn't pretty.

Re: The Great Australian Property Swindle

Surely if there is a tightening of something it would have been looser (or easier) before the tightening.

Re: The Great Australian Property Swindle

Dammed if they do, dammed if they don't.

Some people complain that easy lending is going to cause a boom and bust. Other complain that tighter lending is going to cause a bust.

It's like...

Re: The Great Australian Property Swindle

And Will Smith just before shaking the room. Now that would cause a house crash.

Re: The Great Australian Property Swindle

I agree with that. I've never been convinced by a country's GDP that has been inflated with people buying more and more expensive houses.

Re: The Great Australian Property Swindle

Similar to the UK. It was all doom and gloom about 2003/4 but the crash came later.

Before Ireland joined the Euro I thought the housing situation was going nuts. Adding low interest rates to...

Re: The Great Australian Property Swindle

I did that from memory so it may be unreliable. If it's wrong I'm sure someone will come along with some source (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HP_Sauce) in the near future. :D

Re: The Great Australian Property Swindle

I'm not sure I could call it. It was principally aimed at providing stimulus to the economy rather than to boost housing. Housing at that time didn't need boosting whereas the economy needed...

Re: The Great Australian Property Swindle

It's Labour in the UK as well. I believe it was King O'Malley (an American in the ALP) who pushed for the name change to emphasize closer relations with the US.

Re: The Great Australian Property Swindle

It's funny how many think that the FHBG was started by Labor.

Does that mean it also burst 2 years ago? :sneaky:

Got to wonder what all the hot air is about if the housing market bursts every March.

Re: The Great Australian Property Swindle

The other problem is that if you leave the rental property supply to the government they will make a right pigs ear of it. And they would dole out the best properties to their pinko commie mates.
