Re: Kent: so confused; no one seems to like any of the towns?

Re: Kent: so confused; no one seems to like any of the towns?

When the OP first OPd as I recall, he was looking at Kent and access to Charing Cross because that is where the work was or was likely to be. So Hertfordshire was not really of particular interest....

Re: Kent: so confused; no one seems to like any of the towns?

That's a nice tip ref the bus/train link from Westerham to Victoria, even though I think it more likely to typically run just over 1hr 10mins from Westerham Green to Victoria door-to-door, so to...

Re: Kent: so confused; no one seems to like any of the towns?

Found this in a quote on here back in 2007 which seems to sum up what several thought of the place at the time:

"I'm in a village on the edge of Sevenoaks. While it's nice, you either have loads...

Re: Kent: so confused; no one seems to like any of the towns?

I see the plentiful supply of reasonable property in the Broadwater Down and Warwick Park area. :)

The Bull's website seems to be down today but the dogs welcome bit is also on tripadvisor as a...

Re: Kent: so confused; no one seems to like any of the towns?

Haven't been there but The Bull on the Frant Road beyond the Broadwater Down turn-off looks good and well commended on tripadvisor (FWIW) and the food slate with mains @ 11.95GBP seems fair enough....

Re: Kent: so confused; no one seems to like any of the towns?

If by local you are referring to pubs,

Most of the list are particularly good for Harvey's of Lewes or local Larkins of Chiddingstone drinkers and are all, in my view, civilised establishments:

Re: Kent: so confused; no one seems to like any of the towns?

I don't think that Southborough and Rusthall are dumpy but not as salubrious, shall we say, as the parts of T-Wells around the Common and The Grove and on the Frant Road* and they are cheaper because...

Re: Kent: so confused; no one seems to like any of the towns?

If you were to live in the Grove Hill Road area of T-Wells it is about 1/4th of a mile to Camden Park and 3/4ths of a mile to further extensive parkland with a lake and which is bounded on the east...

Re: Kent: so confused; no one seems to like any of the towns?

Was The Rose & Crown before and there was and still is the Padwell if you just want a beer, or three. But there's always rough cider in them there parts at The Golding Hop at Plaxtol.

Re: Kent: so confused; no one seems to like any of the towns?

Checked out the Ferry Inn and have to admit I'm not familiar with the Isle of Oxney though know of Appledore and Hamstreet for property on here. The problem is that they are indeed characterful areas...

Re: Kent: so confused; no one seems to like any of the towns?

I'm not sure that it is crystal clear but the OP needs to commute into London and it looks on the face of it as though many of the outlying villages to Maidstone, such as Bourton Monchelsea,...

Re: Kent: so confused; no one seems to like any of the towns?

No problem!

I'm more of a Kentish Weald man myself though, if you won't tell anybody ;), I think there is plenty to like in the Faversham - Canterbury - Whitstable triangle for most tastes. Add...

"One gets the impression Chislehurst still thinks it's in Kent." :)

Re: Kent: so confused; no one seems to like any of the towns?

Plus if you look at Bromley Borough Council, it seems, it falls under the Kent County Council even though, very confusingly, its counsellors sit under the Greater London Authority and not Kent.

Re: Kent: so confused; no one seems to like any of the towns?

I could have sworn you said that Kent was off-limits for personal reasons (May 17th) so those of us providing information deliberately left Kent out of the equation.
