Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

By the privilege of birth place I guess they'd argue they have more education and skill to offer the work force but there are plenty who are accepting benefits over in Australia and complaining about...

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

I can't see much of the graph on my i phone but the biggest divergence in the last 10 years is 2.94. On a quick glance it really doesn't look as though the median average is anything like as low as...

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

In London I was on 150k Gbp - when I did the same job in Sydney (less ability to make money as the time zone sucks) - I got $186k.

I think the glass ceiling was lower for my profession and I know...

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

But what a slating immigrants who send money home often get! I think this recession is the first time many people have become aware of the pressures 'economic migrants' often face. I know it's the...

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

Do you know the Ramree Island story? When around 500 Japanese soldiers were eaten by crocs in Burma escaping from the British....

(what am I saying? You were probably there!)

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

Just because you only see one on a croc spotting trip doesn't mean there aren't plenty around. Go at night with a torch and check out how many eyes you can see in the mangrove.

We went for a...

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

Territory I think. The larger the population grows the more they expand their reach. I saw one on Sudbury Cay - about 30km away from the Trinity Inlet in Cairns - must have swum quite a way. They...

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

I read on another thread that Townsville has a 'world class' beach. Now that's subjectivity in the extreme - bordering on the delusional!

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

Bare in mind plenty of these asylum seekers become so due to the fact Australia (with its allies) hasn't respected the 'supreme and unquestionable sovereignty' of that nation.

Anyway, it's a...

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

It irritates me that the country tolerates a government chucking money at people way beyond the amount needed to live on and clearly to people who have no intention of seeking work. However, it...

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

It's bonkers. Next door spend half the year in Bali and work in Oz for six months as well as doing a lot of untaxed boat work for cash in hand. They don't even have to sign on or be in Australia for...

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

The benefit system here seems pretty generous. The couple on the yacht next door have got two kids and get 400 bucks a fortnight from the government even though they have decent jobs and bring in...

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

Are people just not bothering selling UK property now? The rental return in the UK can be pretty good with interest rates so low (unless you bought at the peak). Hardly anyone is going to sell their...
