Re: Home and garden projects

This one is older - the conversion from a maltings was done in '98, but still no updates. The water is incredibly packed with minerals and leaves heavy deposit everywhere. So far, I haven't put the...

Re: Home and garden projects

This isn't exactly a project, but - those little balls you get to put into your shower head that supposedly reduce water deposit or something. Do they actually do any good, and do they impede water...

Re: Home and garden projects

No idea, tbh. My sister also has a shower pump. It seems to be a thing, but my knowledge on the subject is pretty much zero.

Re: Home and garden projects

This is the one they took out last year when it went belly up. They left it here for some reason, and it's easier to take pics of since it's accessible.

Re: Home and garden projects

I'll ask them when they get here. It only runs sporadically on hot.

Re: Home and garden projects

Ok, so I tried again on hot got the whining sound and a bit of vibration. Turned it to cold (on mixer tap), whine and vibration stopped, seemed totally off and didn't restart when I turned it back to...

Re: Home and garden projects

It's municipal water. Comes in from the mains ground level.

Could the pump be working even though it's silent? Seems wrong somehow.

Re: Home and garden projects

Stupid plumbing-type question. The rental we are in has an upstairs and a downstairs shower with a separate pump for each. One pump, for the upstairs, failed completely just before Christmas, with...

Re: Home and garden projects

I thought about having the LL do it, but that seemed like poor parenting.

Re: Home and garden projects

The shelf is up, and I'm not at all dead :)

I think it's even straight - I used a level and everything.

Thanks, all.

Re: Home and garden projects

Thank you, gentlemen, I think I'll be fine. Sounds mostly like a lot of nothing back there.

I think the pipes are all contained in two corners.

Re: Home and garden projects

Maybe I should use some rubber gloves.

Is there anything to this idea that wires will run horizontally out from switches/outlets, or vertically from them but in line?

Re: Home and garden projects

So the butterfly thingies came with the shelf. I'm less worried about weight than I am about electrocuting myself at 220. I would like to avoid putting a drill/screwdriver/screw into a live wire.

Re: Home and garden projects

Thanks, both. It's a converted old malting building. The wall I am eyeing up is not one of the old original walls, but seems to be a bit of drywall/sheetrock from the conversion in the 1990s and is...

Re: Home and garden projects

Want to put up a small shelf in the bathroom. Do I have to have a cable detector to avoid electrical wires, or am I ok with avoiding areas that are horizontal with or vertical to the light switch and...

Re: Home and garden projects

Thank you, but this is all largely over my head . It hasn't tripped before since last summer when we moved in, nothing new added. On that fateful morning I just put some toast on. I...

Re: Home and garden projects

One more question please - OH wants to know if it's a good idea to have a Martindale tester to check sockets, including this one? Would it test for the right things? He is nervous about shocks due to...

Re: Home and garden projects

So what causes a difference in current between the live and neutral cables? Something in the toaster, in this case?

And is it a nor shock risk at all, or only because the rcd trips well before...
