Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

The good thing is that Manchester has changed enormously since the bombing. It's very well-to-do and cosmopolitan now, and I think is has become the UK's second city as far as culture goes. You can...

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

Lovely to hear from you! My mum used to live near Millom (The Hill) and had a view out over the estuary that was lovely. She moved recently though to be closer to me.

I'm so glad you're happy and...

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

trottytrue, I am so sorry to hear about your husband. My mother-in-law has dementia and I think her husband is now starting with it. As the main carer, it's vital that you take care of yourself. I'm...

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

Can't believe you were here and didn't let me know - we'd have had our kettle on too! I'm so glad you had a nice time and that you enjoyed our lovely Autumn weather. It's finally starting to feel a...

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

Last week, I went to the funeral of a childhood friend's dad. We were best friends from 13 to 18, and then we drifted apart but when I came home we reconnected and we're still "besties." Anyway,...

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

Agree with this - rents in Leeds, York and Manchester are high, because these cities are both doing well financially. It's not all poverty and ferrets up here ;-)

Rodney I loved your post. In the...

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

Oh my goodness! It's not at all that way Rodney, please don't worry!

First of all, these are just guidelines, not yet implemented. Second, no-one is being forced to sign anything. Instead it's...

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

You're welcome guys. I never watch reality TV and thought I would hate it too, but it's my absolute favourite show now. I've told all my friends about it and now they all watch too. I don't know why...

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

Hi Cheers and everyone else too!

Spring is sprung here in Yorkshire - the daffs are out, the trees are budding, and the fields are filled with tiny little lambs. It's been quite a cold, windy...

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

It does get you down sometimes. I have been building a garden pond and some new flower beds, and I've done most of the work in cold rain. Gardening up here in the Pennines definitely sorts the men...

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

We've had none of the flooding up here in over the last few weeks, but we are having typical Pennines winter weather - bright blue skies and crisp one minute, raining the next, then sunny again, then...

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

Thanks so much - I generally am happy and didn't mean to sound like such a downer. I just have some things to work through. Smiling again today :)

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

Happy new year to everyone!

This year has been a little tough for me emotionally. Very glad to be home, but have struggled with some issues that have nothing to do with location. Am hoping for...

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

One: You definitely meet the criteria and welcome! (Actually, these people are so lovely they make everyone feel welcome - even the under 50s, as I was when I first joined).

Two: There's no such...

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

My experience last year was that winter didn't really get started until late January. Then it got bitterly cold all through Feb and March and even into April. Lots of snow too. So brace yourself now!

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

No snow here, just good old Pennine weather - grey skies, blustery winds, showers, and the occasional hail storm (that usually happens when I'm halfway round on my 4 mile walk circuit and so I have...

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

Crazy winds up here last night and today. Reminds me of my very favourite poem, which was written about this area.

Wind - Ted Hughes

This house has been far out at sea all night,
The woods...

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

Quite a long way. It would take me about 2.5 hours to get to the area where Curleytops lives - and we're both in North Yorkshire. That's with no traffic - in summer, the drive could be more like 3.5...

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

Yes to both :)

The Jazz is our main car as it's more fuel-efficient. The 4x4 is just for winter and the occasional short trip to keep everything running smoothly as it's quite an old car.

Tried...

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

windsong, my favorite quote is by George Eliot, who said 'it's never too late to be what you might have been.'

I let my 40s drift by in a haze of unhappiness, and didn't take action until I was...
