Re: the official jobs/wages thread...

We will accept electrical design experience in non-mining areas as long as it is in things like HV, substation design, controls, MCCs, PLCs etc. A senior designer needs at least 5 years experience,...

Re: the official jobs/wages thread...

It has been for me and all my colleagues and most other people I know in the industry. We are desparate for people with the right skills. I will pay senior electrical designers with 5 years good...

Re: the official jobs/wages thread...

Re: the official jobs/wages thread...

Realistic salary for an EE in Perth is $200k+ and there are more jobs than people to fill them. You would earn slightly less in Qld. A lot less in NSW, Vic and SA.

Re: the official jobs/wages thread...

That's pretty good. The trainees who work for me - non graduautes - earn $40-50k. Not bad when you are 19. In a couple of years they will be on $150k.

Re: the official jobs/wages thread...

That kind of salary is not uncommon in Perth - and not just among senior management either.

Re: the official jobs/wages thread...

A $400k mortgage on a $50k income would be impossible to manage. You would need a minimum (and I mean minimum) $80k household income to have any kind of quality of life. COL is similar here to the UK.

Electrical engineer in Perth - $150-250k. Slightly less in Qld. A lot less in NSW, Vic and SA.
Archeology - Have not got a clue but probably very poorly paid.

Re: the official jobs/wages thread...

I'm in electrical engineering design in the mining industry. I had no mining experience before I came here. Lack of previous experience is not an issue as they are desperate for skilled guys who have...

Re: the official jobs/wages thread...

He will have no problem finding work in WA or Qld - not sure about the rest of the country. Actually, in WA they will have his arm off.
Pay in WA would be at least $70/hr or $145kpa. In Qld it would...

Re: the official jobs/wages thread...

Overall COL is similar to UK - maybe slightly cheaper here. Food is more expensive here. Utilities, fuel and insurance are cheaper. Electrical goods are roughly the same, some are cheaper in...

Maybe it's like this in your firld but in engineering, in Perth right now salaries are amongst the highest in the Western World - definitely higher generally than in the US.

Re: the official jobs/wages thread...

Mining, oil and gas industries are booming off the scale in Perth. Salaries are high and still rising due to massive skill shortage.

It's a gravy train at the moment.

Re: the official jobs/wages thread...

That's $89k/year not $89/hour. The contract guys who work for me are on $75/hour. $73/hour in O&G is fairly low for Perth.

Re: the official jobs/wages thread...

Something for you to mull over - I have a junior designer working for me. He's Worley Parsons staff and has 2-3 years post training experience. His salary has just been raised to $89k.
Pay scales...

Re: the official jobs/wages thread...

That's the point I was trying to make. Guys on 457s get ripped off and it soon begins to piss them off when the guy sitting next to them is earning twice as much and can change jobs at will. This has...
