Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

Gosh yes.

The cards for hubby's account arrived this morning. I've already put return flights to Costa Rica, 3 nights accommodation, and 1 global entry on the card. Not going to have any problems...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

I've just booked 4 nights at the Andaz in Costa Rica, I used 2 free nights from my Hyatt credit card signup, and 30,000 points that I'd earned from staying in Kauai last month. Room rate is $800 per...

Unlucky :(

My plan is similar to yours, I'm not like Tonrob, I can't juggle all these cards

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

Anyone else applying for the new Sapphire Reserve card? The annual fee of $450 seems steep, until you factor in the $300 credit.

Hubby applied and approved, card will be here in a few days

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

Ah, that's why. I'm looking for 3 seats. Thank you so much for your help. I can't believe how difficult and frustrating the BA site is, everyone else's seems so much easier.

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

Thanks, yes that's what I'm doing, but no availability, and no way to look at a calendar to see when there is availability, so you've just got to keep randomly guessing dates?

What date did you...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

I'm obviously being really thick here. But how do I book online at alaskaair, with my BA points? I thought I had to call up to use Alaska, and why would I call Alaska to use BA points, to fly with...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

I'm just looking for ideas at the moment, and costs. So don't want to call. Literally every search I enter comes up with 'no flights available' and the calendar to show available dates never works....

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

I must be doing something wrong, but no matter what I do, I can't find any partner flights on BA's website.

I'm logging in on BA, going to Spend Avios, tried numerous dates in January and...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

Thanks for posting this. Just applied and card was approved. We're looking at buying a new car at the moment. Might just chuck it on here to get the bonus points immediately, then pay the card off.

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

Thanks, I meant I wouldn't know if the July trip was possible until June, picking up reward seats, or even cheap seats one month out won't be possible.

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

Thanks for that.

Due to other factors this trip is now looking dead in the water, well until June next year, when I have no chance of getting any reward flights :( Bloody kids.

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

Thanks, that was really helpful, I was only searching on round trips or multi destination before.

By searching one way, there is a great flight from San Jose to London for 48,750 miles and $770,...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

That's a good idea, thanks. I was actually looking at train fares in Europe yesterday, as we are thinking of going to Florence instead of Barcelona. I'm now favoring Florence, as we can get the...

Thanks, I'll read that tomorrow. Might use my Chase points then, I just keep saving and never spending.

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

Urgh!!! I find this whole thread both inspiring and daunting.

I'm trying to sort out our vacation for next summer. We're wanting to fly from SFO to Paris, stay 5 nights, fly to Barcelona stay 5...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

I have the same problem. Been trying for at least 2 years to find flights, but being tied to school holidays it's just impossible.

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

Hardly a great deal, but we needed a hotel in Santa Rosa for 1 night in a couple of weeks.

I couldn't get a good Travel Agent discount, so was looking at $200, so used some Avios miles for it...

Re: Modest increases in Chase Sapphire and Freedom bonuses

I decided to go for the Chase offer. Thanks for the heads up.

Can you book using points through a website, or do you usually have to call? I like browsing, and trying different things before I...

Yes, I would only use to hit the sign-up bonus too, but I should probably look around at some other hotel ones before committing. Although I stay at Hyatt hotels fairly often, as they have a great...

Re: Shopping portals

What do you think to the changes with the Hyatt reward program Tonrob? I was thinking of signing up for their Credit Card, but got an email yesterday with lots of changes to their program.

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

Thanks Tonrob, I'll look at this in detail over the weekend. I have a feeling we'll end up letting it expire as there are no reward flights to London over the summer holidays.
