Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

I believe it's now more economical for low mileage users, less economical for high mileage users (because they got rid of three tiers and left one blanket rate). I understand there's a bit of a...

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

Sorry, I meant "where were you" in a literal sense. No disrespect meant to your own skills. I imagine a lot of financial firms had a amajor freak out in the risk department.

I am actually...

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

I thought that was what they encouraged when they rabbited on about Agile development?:D

Where were you when the GFC happened? It was back to Excel, a notedpad and a pencil in some places. Risk...

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

It sounds strange that any population would be so homogeneous. Sounds like it may be a straw man argument.

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

Interesting. Anyway, I'm not placing any bets either way on what will happen in the short to medium term. We'll see what the government and the industry have up their sleeves.

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

I'm quite bearish on Australian property myself at the moment. Do you really think these forums or bloggers have that much influence though? While they may account for a few of the thousand cuts that...

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

My mate's in Brisbane by the way. Have a look at who's working in your local convenience store or fast food joint and ask yourself what their conditions are like.

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

Knowing your rights and being in a position to exercise them are two different things. When you're in a vulnerable position you don't want to rock the boat in case you end up worse off. When you're...

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

Rob the takings too. It's just common sense. You get the benefit of the cash and it looks like the primary motive was robbery.:D

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

I thought that short term emergency accommodation like motels would be made available for families, at least. That's quite sad.

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

That's a long long way from 3,000 families sleeping rough. I would hope that a family sleeping rough is a serious incident that wouldn't be going un-addressed.

EDIT: Regarding the incident...

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

Just to clarify, at census 2006 there were about 16,000 persons sleeping rough in the whole of Australia.

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

No irritation, I was just trying to avoid any misinterpretation.

Basically, I'm saying that the baby bonus is a bad policy in my opinion because it incentivises everyone to have children. Removing...

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

I chose my words carefully there (working housholds), but just to labour the point... I'm not against stay at home parents in any way. I'd question the merit of encouraging people to have children if...

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

It's to encourage people to have children, so as to alleviate the problems associated with an ageing population?

Dare I be so elitist as to say I think it's better to encourage those who come from...

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

Thanks, I was under the impression it was replaced by paid maternity leave. It seems like a poorly targeted policy.

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

Was it a requirement that you had a job to get the baby bonus? I'm assuming for paid maternity leave you have to have a job.

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living
