The cost of living could actually improve in your city and you could still shoot up the mercer cost of living rankings just because...

Tourism has declined because of the exchange rate, not the cost of living. There are 10 of thousands of 4 bedroom houses in Australia in good areas for miles less than 1 million.

You don't....not to leave from OZ anyway....but a recent poster on here or a similar forum reported they saved $1000+ by flying one way and then buying a return from the UK rather than the other way...

I said "some of that" Chris ;) always been a difference but since the pound dropped dramatically and the dollar strengthened the difference has expanded. Because of the exchange rate it is cheaper...

That's a good point. Suggests the number buying hasn't dropped enough to stop them making more money than when they were at their normal price. Doesn't seem likely does it but must be true?

If you know the wage you will be earning in Australia and the wage you earn in the uk divide the cost of something in each country into that countries wage to get a cost multiple for each country....

Ouch...guess was never going to be equivalent lifestyle with a salary roughly 2.2 times lower (based on avg salaries).

How did you drop that much...contract IT role in UK to permanent in Oz?

The markets in Brisbane (eg West End markets) are often a lot cheaper for fruit and veg.
