Re: Is the situation in the UK really that bad?

Re: Is the situation in the UK really that bad?

Given the financial crisis, it doesn't seem bad to me at all. It is not a realistic expectation that everyone should get richer year by year indefinitely and forever.[/QUOTE]I haven't suggested that...

Re: Is the situation in the UK really that bad?

Average weekly earnings in the UK is currently at 2002 levels (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-26368388). It's dropped every year from 2008-2013, squeezing those who are in work against the...

Re: Is the situation in the UK really that bad?

Re: Is the situation in the UK really that bad?

It's not like Cameron won the election in 2010 - the country didn't vote him in just like the country didn't vote Brown in. In the end the UK was condemned to a ConDem government.

Re: Is the situation in the UK really that bad?

That's an interesting reply from you chris in regards to an OECD survey.

You've previously dismissed surveys like this - I've quoted a few of your comments below regarding this. As you will see,...

Re: Is the situation in the UK really that bad?

You can have growth during a depression - look at the Great Depression for example, there were times of growth.

Re: Is the situation in the UK really that bad?

That's interesting - someone else on this thread referring to the UK being in a depression like I did 3 weeks ago (http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?p=10945856#post10945856) (but with a...

Re: Is the situation in the UK really that bad?

Indeed, it's unfortunate that a number of the "haves" don't see the plight of the "have nots".

Re: Is the situation in the UK really that bad?

I am also living in the UK, and I can recognise the issues in the articles and stats I have shared even if I don't happen to feel it in my own life. Here's a couple for today:

UK to be (one of...

Re: Is the situation in the UK really that bad?

I have not suggested that you have said that. I've not suggested that it could be either all positive or all negative anywhere on this thread.

Re: Is the situation in the UK really that bad?

I don't know why you would say such a thing, as I certainly haven't said what you suggest - unless you can point me to the post where I have said that "it upsets me that jobs have been created" or...

Re: Is the situation in the UK really that bad?

Yes, but we're talking about the situation now. That is a comparison of what the employment rate was, and what it is now which shows based on your favoured measure the UK is not in a good position...

Re: Is the situation in the UK really that bad?

I'm sure that if anyone had the answers to help people with the crisis they would have shared them already. This discussion hasn't really been about that, it's been about the situation in the UK in a...

Re: Is the situation in the UK really that bad?

So basically there hasn't been much increase in the employment rate at all then for the period you mention. If you look back to 2007, the employment rate was 74.7% with unemployment at 5.3%, for the...
