Re: Guitar Mad People

I played electric guitar for a year and a half before deciding to try electric bass. For me, bass was a lot easier to play and learn than guitar. I still find it easier after another year and a half...

Re: Guitar Mad People

I didn't swap any electronics. Only the simple plastic pick guard. Even then, I took it to the guitar shop where I take lessons. It only took him a few minutes to change it.

Love them all! My electric guitar and bass are the same colors as yours, but I switched out the pick guards for paisley print ones.

Sweet! What color? Mine is a Fender Jazz Bass and I adore it!

I bought a Fender bass amp too, but can't remember the model offhand.

Re: Guitar Mad People

Ohhhh fun!! I haven't really looked for a Justin-type site for bass. If there's a song I want to learn, I just Google that song plus bass tutorial, and go from there. Can't wait to see a photo!

Re: Guitar Mad People

LOL, funny you mention that... I'm the same way. I'm by no means a good singer, but I cannot sing while playing, either. I really admire those musicians who can do this.... it's not easy!! The...

Re: Guitar Mad People

I've played a few songs with my teacher where one of us plays guitar and the other plays bass, along with the song, and it's fun to realize it sounds like "real music"! LOL

Re: Guitar Mad People

I totally agree with getting in the habit of playing along to music. That's where the "slow down" programs are extremely helpful. Play at a speed you can handle, increase it over time, and suddenly...

Re: Guitar Mad People

I enjoy the 1-on-1 personal learning style for whatever I want to learn, not just guitar. I like that I can ask questions immediately and get an immediate answer. I like that the teacher can point...

I use a very similar program called The Amazing Slowdowner! I use it all the time. It does exactly what you describe above.

Just wanted to thank everyone for the links. I will check them out this weekend!

Re: Guitar Mad People

I'm a huge Prince fan and can play several of his songs on guitar and bass. Prince's music actually inspired me to starry learning!

Re: Guitar Mad People

Love the song Creep!! If it's not too difficult, I should try to learn it!

Just had my lesson last night, and am starting to learn finger -picking the song Hey Jude.

Re: Guitar Mad People

I haven't learned many of the actual notes. I memorize chords and read tabs, as you said.

I haven't delved into music theory yet.

Re: Guitar Mad People

The bass has a red paisley strap, too, but wasn't connected in that photo.

And yes, put Blackbird on your list of songs to learn, it's a good one!

Re: Guitar Mad People

The one song I can play well by finger picking is The Beatles "Blackbird". I can kind of play Dust in the Wind, but not as well.

I like finger picking, it's easier than picking with a...

Re: Guitar Mad People

Hi everyone, great thread!

I started learning guitar about 3 years ago; I have a Fender Squire. I take a 1-hour in-person lesson once a week. I also love Justinguitar.com, he's brilliant!
