Once walmart come in there is no competing on price. They seem to be willing to lose money to weed out competition.

CAD is certainly an issue. Unfortunately we have to buy a lot in USD so we're seeing costs increasing. Some items from the US seemed to be buffered for now, but for how long who knows.

There are a few, Save on Foods in BC does it much like Tesco. Lots of independents around. I shop a lot online, although with the CAD, staying closer to home for now. Some things are not available...

This is not accounting for the 'buy local' campaigns in the provinces and the 100 mile diet. Most communities have local produce markets especially in summer. Winter is where there is more demand...
