Re: Living Costs Oz vs UK

I wasn't. I was saying that Aus was cheaper (for me) to keep the car on the road. Once I actually had the car on my drive, it was cheaper.

But my 1997 Hilux is worth about 2000 GBP, and about...

Re: Living Costs Oz vs UK

For me :-

Aus / UK
2010 Hilux / 1997 Hilux
Rego - $550 / road tax - £210 (would be $400+ for the newer car).
Insurance - $500 / £600+

But I can't afford, just yet, to replace the SLK and...

Re: Living Costs Oz vs UK

Really? Wow.
I was thinking more of the BMW/Merc marques (which I think, outside the AMG and M brands, are overrated).

I've noticed GM are using Opel are trying to cash in on the Germanic name...

Re: Living Costs Oz vs UK

I'd agree with you there. It's a European trait to think if it's got 4/5 doors it's massive.

It's a C-Segment, which is 'small family' car.

But they are growing. Compare the size of a new Golf...

Re: Living Costs Oz vs UK

And I've experienced the opposite.

In the UK I couldn't afford anything reasonable (1 bed flats with no parking in a city centre). And by UK, I mean somewhere in the SE. I'd not think about moving...

Re: Living Costs Oz vs UK

You obviously have a higher opinion that I.

I'd suggest that with the state level of government here, you get people that are more accountable and more in the public eye so we have another level...

Re: Living Costs Oz vs UK

There are still a few over in Aus that have 'ideals' and 'goals', instead of just not upsetting the gravy train and looking for an EU job in the future.

Re: Living Costs Oz vs UK

A lot has been kicked back and foward for so long now that it's about time it just got 'done'.

It's been needed that someone look ahead longer than 4 years till the next election, and actually...

Re: Living Costs Oz vs UK

Why would that government be any different to this?

UK politics is all in the same direction, just a different tie colour.
It's all about making money for your family & friends, while bleeding...

Re: Living Costs Oz vs UK

Couldn't get from Tilehurst or Lower Early for a fiver return. And they are one stop in either direction (and I've lived opposite both).

It's what stopped me spending more nights out in London....

Re: Living Costs Oz vs UK

I lived in Reading for close to 10 years (out near the festival ground for 6 of those). In the last few years, 90% of the bands at Reading have been TOTP filler.

It's no longer a 'Rock' festival....

Been to Perth?

It's $4 a day for me, and the trains, busses and ferries are all run through the same company. So one ticket will allow you on all three. The busses in the city are free.

My salary is over x4 that of the UK. So I'm actually ahead.

I also don't drink 'out' that often. It's all about...
