How bad is to be a commuter in Sweden?
Hi all,
I was just reading in another thread that housing is substantially cheaper in the outskirts/countryside than in the city centre (like everywhere else, I suppose).
This automatically triggers the questions: how good is public transport in Sweden?
This thread wants to be as wide as possible, any drop of knowledge is welcome, but I'm mainly interested about big cities where a university or a research institute can be found (off the top of my head: Stockholm, Uppsala, Goteborg, Malmo)
thanks

Hej!
Not having been to glasgow i cant comment speciffically but compared to the south of england its a doddle. Trains are much better here, although people moan about them just as much . Driving is a dream compared to the uk, but parking in Malmö gtbg or sthlm can be expensive.
That's all i know about that!
Good luck!

A lot of the cities here now have Trängselskatt or congestion charge to you and me so driving can be a pain. Parking restrictions can also make life very difficult. Stockholm is very easy for commuting though. The T'bana or tube trains are pretty good and do travel out to the suburbs where accommodation is generally much cheaper. In London that kind of trip by tube is about an hour. In Stockholm it can be as little as fifteen minutes. Most of it is now done on an Oyster card type system. Hope that helps a little.
