Summers in the North are different - and better - than in the decadent and effete South !

Now that summer's over and winter's just around the corner in Sweden, I'm reminded of the times I've stared stonily through the window at the incessant drizzle falling through the perpetual twilight, and I wonder now that I live in the sunlit uplands of the balmy South, whether the climate really does have an impact on people and their pastimes.

Just make sure that you have enough Akvavit for the winter.

Actually, the last couple of times I've visited my son in Norway (east of Oslo) I've spent almost the whole two weeks in shorts and flip-flops. Lovely weather! The other day when I Skyped him the temperature at his place was the same as mine here in the Caribbean.
He lives (most of the time) in a forest cabin (hytte) that he and some friends built up from a run-down wreck. Very comfortable, except it doesn't have a septic. A huge improvement on his last DIY home-building project, which was a treehouse in Guatemala, in his hippy days.
