Moving to Denmark, Copenhagen and getting a CPR...Help.

Hi there everyone,

I'm 21 years old, and I have just moved over to Copenhagen to be with my girlfriend from London. I have very luckily got myself two bar jobs without speaking Danish, which is fantastic, however I can't start work until I get my CPR number.

Here is my Dilemma in which I need help with... And would be most grateful for your responses...
So my girlfriend is a Dane studying at the moment, she gets help from the government with rent etc as she is a student. However it means that if I move in with her they will stop that funding.... But until I can save money to get my own place I can't move out. So I can't use her address to get a CPR, but then I can't work because I need a CPR. So all in all I'm stuck are there Any suggestions of what I can do?

Nikki

Hi Nikki,

Nice to see another Brit here on the forums. I haven't met any British residents here yet.

I am from South East london (Dartford area), who has moved to Denmark (South east København) to be with my fiance. I've been here for almost 6 weeks now working in Flintholm, København.

The CPR number can be a real pain sometimes, and can take a little longer than expected. SNIP

Hey hey,

It sounds like we have been in Copenhagen around the same amount of time! Have you got your CPR yet? How are you finding adjusting to Danish life ? I still haven't managed to get my CPR... And tips and advice of easiest way to get it ?

You didn't live far from me at all in England, I am from Croydon!

Nikki 😊

I know when I moved here, you had to live here first for a set period then you had to apply via the Stats office for permission to work, you also had to in that time show you could fund yourself, meaning you had to show you could support yourself I think by memory you had to show you had savings, you had to have at least 5000kr a month before you were given a cpr number.
Once you had the official permission to work you had to then go to your local kommune and apply for your cpr, but you also had to be here for a set perion before you could apply for one, I'm not sure anymore on what that time limit was with the kommune.
I think the thing with your girlfriend not getting funding if your living there is simply because she's already getting state funding and they're funding her not you, hence the fact if your living with her she gets nothing, if she weren't on funding you'd be able to use her address.
